Fire, Ice and Bears Helicopter Adventure Package - 6-days, 5-nights

Day 1
Depart Homer Harbor in the late afternoon. Enjoy a scenic boat cruise on Kachemak Bay watching for otters, seals, puffins, and bald eagles. Occasional viewing whales or black bears on the beach, add to the experience! When you arrive, you will be given an oriention and shown to your private cabin; a quaint retreat that offers a private sitting porch with great views, private bathroom, lodge-style decor, and a cozy gas fireplace. This evening is spent relaxing on the sea-side deck, enjoying the cedar sauna, walking the shoreline, or visiting with other guests over a glass of wine.

Day 2
Wait in anticipation as your personal pilot touches down on the lodge’s main lawn for the days’ adventure. Today you will fly up to the Harding Icefield, an icefield as big as Massachusetts! You will have amazing views of the mile-high jagged peaks of Kenai Fjords National Park. Occasional sightings of mountain goats clinging to the cliffs add to the adventure. After about 20-30 minutes of flight time, you will touch down on one of the alpine glaciers coming off the Icefield. You are stepping back into the ice age as you walk on thousand-year old ice! Be sure to bring some ice back to the Lodge for happy hour! This trip is 3-4 hours in length. Upon arrival back at the lodge, you will have time to relax, take a short hike, or do some fishing. Each evening, you enjoy a full-service evening meal served with a splash of rustic elegance. See our “food tab” for examples of our delicious menus.

Day 3
Most everyone hopes to see a bear in Alaska, and today, we guarantee you will see bears! Katmai National Park boasts the highest concentration of brown bears on the planet, and our proximity to the Park enables us to view and photograph these magnificent animals safely in their natural habitat. Enjoy a one-hour flight to the Alaska Penninsula, then touch down and walk to a nearby stream or meadow where the bears may be seen at safe distances. Bear in mind (pun intended) you will be in the company of a skilled wildlife guide, and any apprehension will quickly melt away as you see how the bears interact with people. It is truly a walk on the wild side and you will learn so much. Trip length averages about 6 hours, with about 3-4 hours on the ground.

Day 4
Augustine volcano is a classic-shaped volcano rising 4,000 feet above Cook Inlet. Your knowledgeable pilot will give you great views of the volcano then touch down upon the rugged, virgin landscape near the top. Have a snack and short hike while you enjoy the specacular views. Few people can say they have walked on a volcano; an unbelievable experience that is practically indescribable. This trip averages about 4 hours with about 1.5 hours of helicopter time.

Day 5

Enjoy a “free day” at Hideaway Cove Lodge. Guests can choose to relax and read from our Alaska library, hike the state park trails, or join a guided kayaking trip along the sea coast, or paddling amongst the icebergs at glacier lake.
